Camp Howard's Goal
We aspire to build Christian values through the camping experience. Each summer we create a unique, spiritual, vibrant community that offers our campers a fun-filled, challenging week in a safe, natural environment. A primary goal of our program development is to make each camper a better citizen after attending Camp Howard. Our camp is designed to assist campers in developing independence, social skills, positive values, and gaining respect through taking responsibilities for ones own actions. Camp Howard is open to all children regardless of race, color, national origin, religious affiliation or creed.
Lost & Found
If your child left anything up at camp or on the bus ride home you can
come to the CYO office to look through the room full of lost and found.
Camp Howard's policy is to keep lost and found for two weeks and
anything that is unclaimed will be given to charity.
About the Staff
Camp Howard seeks good Christian role models. One of our goals is to make your child's experience memorable. Our hiring process includes an application, 3 written references, a background check and an interview. About 20% of our staff have been campers at Camp Howard and possess a desire to pass along their own rewarding experiences. We have international staff members who bring a vast range of experiences and enhance our culture, global and language appreciation. All staff attend a week long training course where they learn counseling skills, behavior management techniques and the policies and procedures that govern Camp Howard.
Accreditation
Camp Howard is accredited by the American Camping Association. Membership in this national organization means we have achieved and are held to the highest standards of health and safety.
Location
Camp Howard is located 45 minutes east of Portland between the Columbia Gorge and Sandy on 240 acres overlooking Mt. Hood. A map will be sent in the confirmation packet.
Care Packages
You can order your child a care package on the registration page. The care package items cannot be bought in the camp store. It includes treats, toys, games, and coupons for the camp store. Orders must be pre-ordered. Prepaid care packages will be delivered to campers while they are at camp.
Bus Transportation
Camp Howard provides round trip transportation. For general camp please have your camper at the Madeleine (NE 24th & Klickitat St) by 2:30pm on Sunday. Pick up is on Friday at 5:30pm.
Mini Camp drop off day is different but the times are the same.
