Working at Camp Howard for the summer is an experience unlike any other. Staff will have the opportunity to live and work together as they provide memorable experiences for children. Having the chance to positively impact the live of a child is a opportunity that you will never forget. Camp Howard is a tight knit community that enjoys the outdoors and working with children. Our staff represents a variety of people. The typical age ranges from 18-30 years old. The experience that our staff gains is invaluable and is very useful down the road in a number of fields.

Terms of service
Our season begins towards the end of June and runs through till the end of August. This includes one week of staff training. It is expected that staff will work the entire season and days off must be made in advance with the Camp Director. All staff have in general a 36 hour break each week with four hours off each day. In addition to a weekly salary, we offer room and board, food, staff shirts, and ongoing training through the summer.

Where is Camp Howard
Camp Howard is located about 35 miles east of Portland in the foothills of
the Cascade Mountains. We have 240 acres on Cougar Mountain with a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. Our Facility includes 35 heated cabins for both staff and campers. Some of our facilities include a swimming pool, a pond, three large fields, and a star deck. We also have various other program buildings and areas.

Program Director
Oversee development and implementation of all camp programs. Oversee all program staff and program areas. Run the day-to-day camp operation. Be flexible and a very good problem solver. Supervisory and camp experience required. Minimum age 21 years old.

CIT/Specialty Camp Director
For three weeks the CIT director teaches 15, 16, and 17 year olds. The other weeks are spent running our specialty camps, such as our canoe camp. Leadership, supervision, organization, and camp experience required. Minimum age 21 years old.

Waterfront Director
Must have current Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certification. Able to supervise all pool. pond, and lake activities. Need to posses supervisory skills, a general knowledge of canoeing, and pool maintenance. Minimum age 21 years old.

Unit Director
Provide organization and supervision for 30-40 campers and 5-6 counselors, and monitor their cabin activities. Arrange all unit activities and assist with the camp radio and nature programs. Problem solving skills are critical. Supervisory and camp experience required. Minimum age 21 years old.

Art Director
Facilitate camps art program designated for ages 7-14. Experience in various art techniques and able to teach daily arts and crafts projects. The ability to instruct campers and staff critical. Organization and art ability required. Minimum age 18 years old.

Recreation Director
Create a varied schedule of activities for all levels, emphasizing participation over competition. Must have knowledge of various sports, group games, and indoor activities. The ability to organize large groups of people is essential. Minimum age 18 years old.

Cabin Counselor
Live with and supervise a cabin of eight campers. Care for the campers needs and maintain an inclusive environment. Assist in other camp operations as needed. Sound judgment, flexibility, punctuality, and patience a must. Minimum age 18 years old.

Relief Counselor
Assist the Unit Director and provide time off for counselors. Willingness to help in any area of camp. Ability to move from cabin group several times a day. Must be responsible and punctual. Minimum age 17 years old.

Assistant Cook
Assist the head cook in preparing all meals. Help prepare all unit pack outs. The ability to work quickly and efficiently are required. Supervision, organizational skills, and flexibility needed. Minimum age 21 years old.

Prep Cook
Work as a team with the kitchen staff to do all prep work as assigned by the head cook. Assist in cleaning after meals and doing dishes. Must be willing to work quickly, follow directions, and be flexible. Minimum age 17 years old.

Jesus Jamboree Volunteer
Have you thought about working with a Religious Community? High School Students! A summer opportunity July 11-16. Experience a great week this summer with Jesus. Volunteer position at Jesus Jamboree with the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon at Camp Howard. Work with the Sisters sharing their faith in action at summer camp.
